Faux Cement Vase

Cement, ceramic, concrete, terra-cotta ohh my, the many names that I can give this project 😂

I fell in love with this style of pottery, while on the hunt for some at the thrift store to tie in the Athens aesthetic we have going on in our living room.

I saw a fellow Instagram-er make similar vases and when I inquired about it, she pointed me in the direction of Pinterest. (Oh but of course !) So off I went to buy the supplies.....but honestly,

they sat for months untouched and disregarded.

Somewhere in between time, by absolute luck, I found the perfect pottery piece to go with the Athens theme of our living room, so in a way, I just forgot the project even existed.

However, our bathroom has a feminine, sculpture workshop vibe and it dawned on me, during a hurricane evacuation to my moms house, that finally I could work on this project. Especially if the power went out, it would be the perfect thing to occupy my time.

And so it was, finally I had the time to work on this project and thankfully we dodge yet, another Cat 4.

The Tampa legend lives on! IYKYK

Materials

  • Baking soda,

  • acrylic paint,

  • brush and holder.

  • a buddy to work with (optional.)

Time 30min -24hrs

How to

  1. In a cup, combine paint and baking soda, a little bit by little until you get a consistency you want to work with.

  2. Coat your vase, you might find that it is too transparent or too thick, but give it some time in between coats and judge it dry.

  3. The next step is optional, but if you have a sheet of sanding paper, you can shave it down, to make it "smoother," in certain areas that didn't take evenly.

Adding these vases and pampas grass to the bathroom, really helped tie in the look that I was aiming for.

Hope you enjoyed the latest DIY project.

Til next post xx
